Immigrants and Refugees in the US
Madeline
I think the United States should continue to accept immigrants and refugees for various reasons. The first reason is that the United States can help save many people. The US is one of the largest countries in the world with a lot of opportunities and power. For example, my dad is a refugee from Haiti. He became a refugee because Haiti became dangerous. Thanks to the refugee program he was able to change his life with my brothers and sister and save them from the country’s power war. The second reason is that many jobs are filled by migrants. According to American studies, migrants occupy a large part of the US workforce in many professions. They are health workers, construction workers, cashiers, garbage collectors and more. The third reason is that the migrants and refugees contribute to the United States economy. In the US the migrants and refugees don’t have more privileges than American people. They also pay their rent, taxes, and participate in the country’s economy like all residents of the United States. Some people might think that migrants and refugees steal or take their jobs and fear the mass effect of having fewer opportunities. However, I believe that many jobs’ Americans do not want to do because they are seen as too “bad” and” not good enough”. For these reasons, the United States should continue to accept immigrants and refugees because they contribute to the balance of the country.
