The Importance of Immigrants and Refugees in the United States
Viktoriia Opanasiuk
The United States should continue to accept immigrants and refugees because they bring many benefits to the country. First, immigrants help grow the economy. They work in many areas like healthcare, technology, nannies, farming, tire service, car repair, various services (such as beauty salons and massage), taxis, and delivery. However, the largest number of immigrants work in the construction industry. Some immigrants may not speak English well, so they take jobs that need manual labor, and these are jobs that native workers do not want. Competition between immigrants and native speakers may only be in jobs with special skills, such as lawyers, analysts, brokers, traders, media, management, and IT. My family moved to the United States a few years ago. My husband got a job in IT, and through hard work, he grew in his sphere. At first, it was difficult based on his poor English and the cultural differences. However, in my husband’s case, he worked hard to improve his skills, which helped him and his company. Immigrants often take jobs where they can grow, benefiting themselves and the economy. Secondly, immigrants bring new ideas and cultures, which makes the United States more diverse and interesting. This cultural exchange helps everyone learn from each other. Lastly, taking refugees shows kindness and support for people who are suffering from war, disaster, or other dangers in their own countries. Giving refugees and immigrants a chance to start a new life in the United States is the right thing to do. Some people might say that immigration is a problem because it can create competition for jobs and put a strain on public services. Others may worry about the cost of supporting refugees and immigrants through social programs or healthcare. However, in many cases, immigrants help American workers rather than take their jobs. In conclusion, immigrants and refugees make the United States a better place, and it is important to keep welcoming them and maintaining friendly, cultural, and professional relationships.
