My First Day in Seattle

Ludmila Cerqueira

Two years ago, I had an unforgettable experience. On May 19, I arrived in Seattle for the first time. It was a city I had always wanted to visit, mostly because of all the seasons of Grey’s Anatomy I had watched. I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know anyone there, and I got off the plane at 12:30 AM after a long and tiring flight.

The first place I visited – and where I stayed – was Seattle’s Chinatown. I arrived very early in the morning, and by 6 AM, I was already out exploring, excited to see what the city had to offer. I wasn’t expecting what I saw: a warm, sunny day with clear blue skies. It felt like the city was welcoming me.

That afternoon, I walked through the streets with my camera, paying attention to every detail. The buildings, the parks, the people – everything felt alive. Strangers smiled, children laughed and played in the sun, and the whole city seemed calm and full of joy.

That day stayed in my memory. It wasn’t just about visiting a new place. It was about feeling a connection. Even now, every time the sun comes out, I remember that first day in Seattle. It was simple, but it meant a lot. Since then, I’ve discovered more of Washington’s beauty – places like Diablo Lake, Cascadia, and Mount Rainier. Every destination feels like a piece of paradise.
