Introducing Cloud Code Camp

The idea for a Cloud Code Camp occurred to me when hiking in the woods and thinking about how sometimes IT courses miss the forest for the trees. Students learn lot of different computer languages. But they rarely learn how to put all the languages together to create something interesting, like an interactive web site. Also, just like hiking in the woods, I wanted something that provides good exercise along with fun and recreation. With all that in mind, Cloud Code Camp was born! The meaning of “Cloud Code Camp” is summed up by the three words included in the name:

Cloud – hosted online, on-demand, pay as you go. Currently AWS, because we have access to free accounts for students. But potentially any cloud provider would work.

Code – focus is on programming and application development. Application hosting is also key! It’s no fun writing apps no one can see or use. We’ll combine application writing with application publishing and hosting.

Camp – fun, informal, exploratory. You’ll learn a lot. But it will be mostly self-paced. You can pick your own challenges and areas to go deeper.
