20 Ideas for Discussions about Privilege (2025)

Daria Schubert

This article from Dartmouth titled: Introduction to Power, Privilege, and Social Justice is succinct and easy to read. The follow-up Part 2 article has some great set-ups, ground rules, and approaches, including some discussion topics:

    1. What is your relationship to social justice?
    2. How have you seen power and/or privilege, or lack of, in your everyday life?
    3. What 3~5 identities are important to you? Which identities have the most impact on how you see yourself?
    4. What are some identities that you hold that are privileged? What are some identities that you hold that aren’t?
    5. What part of others’ identities do you notice first?
    6. How do your salient identities affect how you experience Dartmouth? How might it differ from other people’s experiences?

These could be asked in small groups or on a discussion board.
