Chapter 2: Settings Where Healthcare is Delivered

Brandon Censon MPH, CPH, RRT-NPS, CPFT, CPT

When the term healthcare setting is used, it refers to a variety of services and places that a patient can receive healthcare. Some healthcare settings allow for patients to be admitted and stay overnight, whereas others, patients are only at the healthcare setting for a brief period of time, for example, to see their primary care provider. A primary care provider is a healthcare provider that an individual would see as their main healthcare provider for non-emergency care. As you explore your potential career pathways, consider the influence of the following settings on who your patients will be, and what focus or specialty practices in that environment.
