My Experiences of Learning English
Naheda Karimi
I have been learning English since 2018. Learning English was the most difficult language for me because in my home country I had never studied before. When I got married I used to be a student in high school. I studied until 11th grade without an English lesson. There were a lot of English classes, however; they weren’t free. In november 2017 my husband and I came here and I didn’t even know how to speak. In the beginning of 2018 I started studying English in an Iraqi canter which is located in kent washington. I had a very difficult time in that class, for instance; when the teacher talked to me I never understood her and I was confused about what she said. All the students were from Iraq and I was the only one from a different country, so; my teacher usually used google translate for me to better understand. I studied there for about 8 months then we moved to Des Moines close to highline college; finally, I got a chance to go to a large class with many classmates.
As you can see, I started studying in level 1 at highline college and During that time until now I left the classes many times. In 2020 I was in level 3 and I went to Afghanistan for three months. When I came back I got covid19 and could’t continue my class. In 2022 I started ESOL class again and I worked hard to improve my English language. I’m trying my best to improve my English language, meanwhile having 4 children under 5 and with all these responsibilities. Finally, I’m in level 4 right now and I hope next year I can finish my ESOL classes, so I can move to college and my dreams will come true.
