How do Afghan People Celebrate Eid
Zahra Habib
So I want to write about the Eid days that Afghans usually celebrate. In Afghanistan one week before Eid everyone starts cleaning their houses and if they want to buy some new furniture, rugs, curtains, and dishes they buy it for eid. After cleaning everyone goes shopping to buy new clothes, shoes, and many other things that they would like to wear on Eid days. They welcome their guests on Eid days with different kinds of dry fruits, cakes, cookies, and lots of homemade desserts.
Normally women in Afghanistan don’t go to the Mosque for Eid prayer, instead they make Eid tables and wear their Eid clothes. When the man came from the Mosque everyone said Eid mubarak and hugge each other. Older people give some money as Eidi to younger people. After having breakfast they start going to each other’s homes. If it is Eid Ul Adha after Eid prayer they do zabha (sacrifice halal animals). I also celebrate the same way in the US, but the difference is that usually I go for Eid prayer to the Mosque with my husband and kids. We don’t have any relatives to go to their houses, but we do have some afghan friends so we go to their house. The best part of Eid is going to the parks and having fun with my family.
