How Istanbul Became My Favorite City
Safi Noor
Graduating from medical faculty and completing my medical degree in a professional hospital was one of the most important aspects of my life. Therefore, I was asked to join a very high-profile hospital in Istanbul, Türkiye to complete my practical training period. I was very happy about it, because I was going to achieve my dream. Also, I was very excited to explore all big cities of Turkey that I had heard before. I had the opportunity to visit Ankara the capital of Turkey, Izmir and Kunya the city of Rumi. On the other hand, I was nervous about that trip because I was not aware of their culture, social norms and mostly the language. I had heard that Turkish people don’t speak other languages other than Turkish.
For me the happiness of my parents was more important than my own feeling, since they had planned the trip and were very proud that their son was going to gain a highly valued degree from a prestigious university. Visiting Istanbul, feeling its natural beauty and the kindness of its people made me love Istanbul. It was not as bad as I had expected. I lived there for 7 years and brought my family there. I call Istanbul the Bride of Cities, because it is beautiful, clean and has many beautiful places to visit that will never end exploring. I wish I had never left Istanbul, but I had to. Here I miss the sound of Azan, the kindness of the people and mostly my mom and dad.
