Whether you realize it or not, you’ve already been doing research. Think back to a time you needed some information. Was it to find the best gaming system? Did you need information about a new medication? Did you want to follow up on a dubious claim made by a friend? In all these cases, you were doing research. Academic research is similar to personal research in that you are seeking information about a topic. Academic research differs from personal research in that often times there is no one, definite, answer to your question, but instead a series of opinions to synthesize.
Think back to a time you needed to research something, anything! What did you do to get started? Did you ever feel like you came to a dead end? What did you do then, did you ask for help? How did you evaluate what you found?
