Approaches to Community-Based Learning

1. Adding a project or assignment that is based on Community-Based Learning:

If you would like to add class projects and/or assignments that use community-based learning, there is no need to change the course’s outcomes or descriptions. You can design projects and/or assessments to complete your course’s outcomes without any administrative permissions. Please see suggestions for community-based projects and recommendations for organizations you can collaborate with below.

2. Adding a learning outcome/s that are focused on Community-Based Learning

If you would like to add a learning outcome that focuses directly on community-based learning, you can contact your program director or department chair and submit a proposal for change through the Curriculog. You will then go through the regular approval process with CRC to approve your course change.

3. Designating a course for Community-Based Learning

If you are interested in designing a course that would be dedicated to community-based learning, you would need administrative approval. Please contact your program director/department chair and your dean. There may be a need for designing a new process/structure for courses dedicated to community-based learning. If so, the instructional council would have to approve the suggested process.
