Agency presentation
Context:
Our students volunteer at different organizations. You each know about your organization, but not necessarily about each others’. You can learn from each others’ experiences.
Purpose:
Learn about local social service organizations and their work.
Tasks:
Students will each present a 8-minute presentation to the class. Presentations will be followed by questions from fellow students. The focus of the presentation should be the content, not the way in which the material is presented.
- Introduce the class to the organization in which you work and the scope of services they provide.
- Briefly describe characteristics of the client population with which you will be working. This may include language, nationality, social class, race, gender, age, or other aspects of diversity.
- Identify the role you play in the organization.
- Identify personal strengths you bring to the practicum. Your strengths might include resources, traits, knowledge, values, and skills.
- Identify your learning needs to work in this setting long-term.
- Share what you find most interesting about the setting. Students will present in class.
Grading criteria:
- 8-10 minute presentation
- Clear communication
- Introduces the agency and its work
- Describes the population
- Names your volunteer role
- Articulates your strengths
- Articulate your learning needs
- Names what you find interesting
Directions to help:
The best option is to have conversations with the staff and clients at the organization. Also, information your agency provided as part of your orientation can help. Of course their webpage will also have lots of useful information.
