Introduction

This guide is intended to give you the information you need to teach successful community-based courses and sessions at Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Adding a community-based learning component to your courses can help strengthen learning outcomes, encourage community engagement as a learning process, and prepare students for post-college careers with vital skills and community connections.

Acting as a “hub” for information and resources, this guide supports faculty in better understanding community-based learning pedagogies and practices and connecting with community partners in the Kirkland, WA area. The guide provides information and resources about community-based learning practices in general and provides a list of suggested learning activities, which instructors can adopt to their teaching. In addition, the guide provides a list of community partners who LWTech instructors can collaborate with.
