My Neighborhood

Shen Liang and Cisco Mincey

It is the dream of many students studying in the United States to have a house of their own. My child came to the United States to study abroad. After graduation, he stayed in the United States to work. A few years later, he bought a new house by himself. It felt like a dream. My children have lived and worked in Kirkland for many years. I come to Kirkland to visit my children and enjoy walking around the neighborhood in my spare time. I found that there are many small and big neighborhoods in Kirkland, each with its own characteristics. The neighborhood we live in has a lot of its own characteristics too. There are many things I like and dislike about my neighborhood. However, for us, the advantages of my neighborhood clearly outweigh its disadvantages.

There are a lot of things I enjoy about our neighborhood. For example, it’s very peaceful. The roads are wide and free from traffic jams. It’s also beautiful. I live right next to Denny Park by Lake Washington. I go for a walk there almost every week. The view is so beautiful. It’s also so harmonious. There are many foreigners in my neighborhood. They are friendly, polite, and open. They all follow the rules. They respect each other. There are free small bookcases in our neighborhood. There is a farmer’s market in the nearby Juanita Beach Park every Friday afternoon. In addition, we live near the downtown of Kirkland, where some activities are often held. This year, we participated in a vintage car exhibition, saw hundreds of strange cars, and felt so terrific. What I like most is the convenience of going to the community college LWTech. I like the school and the teachers very much. I learned a lot of practical knowledge in there.

There are also some things I don’t like about my neighborhood. For instance, it’s difficult to play basketball. There aren’t any basketball courts nearby, so I have to drive a long way to play basketball. Also, it’s sometimes kind of boring. I wish I could watch a lot of sports, especially NBA games.

As you can see, where we live there are both advantages and disadvantages. In general, it feels calm, relaxing, convenient, and very happy here, so those shortcomings are insignificant. I am pleased that I can find happiness all around me in my neighborhood.
