My Backyard
Yang Sun and Sharon Vazquez
Last summer my family moved from Illinois to Seattle in the ever green state of Washington. My favorite part of our new home is the backyard, which is not big but has a great view.
Standing in the backyard in the early morning, you can see the mountains far away in the clouds and mist. This view would be impossible for me to see in the central plains where I had lived in the past six years.
To enjoy the yard every day, I started a small vegetable garden for myself from the most basic and easy plants like tomatoes, cucumbers and beans. Pulling weeds, watering, fertilizing and catching insects every morning, finally I got a harvest. From picking the first cucumber and tomato until now, I have a full basket every day. At times, I look at the tomatoes, and I think how amazing life is. A small seed can sprout and take root, grow a stem and leaves and it can also be fruitful.
