My Neighborhood
Jane Qian
I have moved to a new place eight times in my hometown since marriage. We moved from the suburbs to Yueyang City and then moved from a small apartment to a bigger one because we wanted to get a better life and more work opportunities. Last year, I retired and moved to my daughter’s home which is in Redmond. I love Redmond. There are many things I like and dislike about my neighborhood. However, for me, the advantages of my neighborhood greatly outweigh its disadvantages.
There are lots of things I enjoy about my neighborhood. For example, it’s beautiful because there are many cedar and other trees in my neighborhood. The location of our home is perfect. It’s easy and fast to go shopping, and many malls are nearby. I can buy anything in ten minutes of driving. I also always walk in Grass Lawn Park near my neighborhood which is my favorite park. It’s near my mom and sister’s home too. I can visit them anytime.
There are also some things I don’t like about my neighborhood. For instance, there is less sunshine and more darkness inside the home because of so many trees. I feel a little upset without enough sunshine. I like brightness in the room. Sunshine is helpful for my health and emotions. Also, there are four families in a condominium building. And there is a main road nearby. So, it’s a little bit loud sometimes.
As you can see, life in my neighborhood has its own benefits and drawbacks. My neighborhood is a little noisy and has less sunshine. However, this is nothing compared to its advantages. I’m pleased that I can live in beauty and comfort all around me in my neighborhood.
