My Neighborhood

Miki Igarashi

Moving to a new place is exciting for me in some case, but there are a lot of difficult things. However, I had to move a few times in order to get married, get a good job and educational opportunities. I moved to Seattle due to my husband job. There are many things I like and dislike about my neighborhood. However, the benefits that we have lived here are bigger than loss for me.

There are a lot of things I enjoy about my neighborhood. For example, I can feel the four seasons like in Japan. In spring, I can see some cherry blossoms. In autumn, I can see changing colors of leaves. Our house is located on quiet streets and our surroundings are rich in nature. Sometimes, I can see some wild rabbits, squirrels, and deer. And our house is next to my daughter’s elementary school and a beautiful park. When we chose a house in Seattle, we prioritized my daughter’s school. This school is really nice, and teachers, parents and the school’s system is wonderful. I love it. So, I want to participate in different events and volunteer as well as I can.

There are also some things I don’t like about my neighborhood. For instance, it is hard to maintain the backyard and garden around my house. In spring, I need to put seeds on the lawn and care for it. In autumn, I often need to clean due to a lot of leaves. And it is too high to pay for rent of my house. Finally, I need to drive for shopping.

As you can see, living in a new place has a few advantages and disadvantages. However, the benefits that we have lived here are bigger than loss for me. From now on, I want to live focusing on benefit as well as I can.
