My Neighborhood

Alex Vlasov

The last decades of my life were closely connected with medical practice, science and teaching. I moved from one region to another all around Ukraine, following my work and mission. So, relocating is not a new experience for my life. Faced with the brutal war in my country, acts of unlawful attacks and persecution, constant threat to life, deterioration of health occurred. One day, I remembered my childhood dream. I admire United States civil society values and liberty, so I moved to the United States and found safety and all necessary medical help I need. When I came to America, I realized that the place of my future work will continue to determine my place of residence. But it will be in the future. Nowadays, I live in a nice house in Snohomish County near the shore of the bay. I’m living in an amazing neighborhood with some pros than cons.

There are a lot of things I enjoy about my neighborhood. There is beautiful nature, fresh air, fine view spots, and quiet clean streets at my neighborhood. Usually, there is almost no traffic on my avenue. My house is next to a park with wild nature, a lot of trees, a creek, and a trail to the seashore. I go for a walk there almost every day, and it helps me to stay so healthy and fit. Also, an important advantage of my community is a high level of safety because I was deprived of secured feeling for more than a year.

I didn’t find any serious disadvantages in my new neighborhood. But I can figure out a list of some issues of our community. There aren’t grocery stores, gyms and swimming pools in our neighborhood, so I need to drive a lot of miles around the city to deal with my daily activities. Unfortunately, we don’t have a convenient schedule and routes of public transport. I have to drive to another city to go to college every work day, so it’s actually important for me.

To summarize, I am fully satisfied with the life in our community, and I think that its advantages clearly outweigh its disadvantages, such as absence of malls, grocery stores, gyms, swimming pools, and convenient public transport routes and schedules. In my opinion, clean nature, fresh air and safety is the most important in my surroundings.
