My Neighborhood

Aliaksandr

Imagine a 3.5-acre plot of land located in a pine forest on an almost steep hillside. The elevation difference on the property exceeds 150 feet and the nearest neighbor’s house is 500 feet away. If you can imagine this, you will understand my neighborhood. I want to list the positive and negative aspects of my life there.

The positive aspects include the following. First, the dense coniferous forest gives fresh air and a wonderful aroma. In a hot summer, the air temperature in the forest is 3-4 degrees lower than at the top of the hill. Second, my bedroom windows face the east side of the house, so the rising sun looks to the window through the treetops. This creates a wonderful morning mood. Third, trees reduce ambient noise, so the yard and house are always quiet. I also often see squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and deer. In spring and summer, the forest is filled with birdsong. I always smile when I hear some small bird singing like the sound of metal balls hitting. Also, I like the fact that Mark Twain Park is located not far from my house. It has a basketball court and a play area for my grandchildren. Finally, I need only 15 minutes to walk to the university where I am improving my English skills.

In addition, I want to point out a few disadvantages of living in such a neighborhood. The main drawback is the lack of cultural and entertainment institutions in the area. To get to the nearest restaurant you need to drive at least 10 minutes. To get to the theater or museum you need to go to Seattle by car or bus. There are other problems of living in the forest. For example, every spring a bear comes to our yard from the forest. After winter, he is hungry, so he turns over garbage cans in search of food. The arrival of a bear makes my family nervous. Also, during windy weather, heavy dry branches fall from trees. And last year the wind broke two large pine trees. It’s good that they fell away from the house.

In conclusion, living in my neighborhood has advantages and disadvantages. These problems are not critical for me. I enjoy living in my neighborhood.
