The Person I Admire

Caleb Hsu

My mom, Grace, is the person who has had the greatest influence on me. She is hardworking, doing her job every day to provide us with everything we need—food, clothes, money, and support for learning. My mom always puts our family first, working hard to give us a comfortable life. She has inspired me to feel confident at balancing my responsibilities and find joy in studying.

Besides her job, my mom also does a lot of housework and helps me with my studies. Since we moved to the United States, our lives have become much busier. There is more homework, more housework, and many new things to do. My mom makes sure everything gets done, even though there is always something more to handle. She is constantly balancing her job, the housework, and helping me with school.

This semester, she started taking classes at the University of Washington to earn her Master of Public Health degree, even though she already has a degree from my home country and works as a physician. She wants to earn this degree here so she can find a new job in the United States. Watching her go back to school, even with all her responsibilities, has taught me a lot about commitment and the importance of education.

My mom is my role model. Her hard work and kindness inspire me every day. She shows me that it’s possible to handle many responsibilities and still make time for family. I am very grateful for everything she does, and I hope to be as hardworking and caring as she is someday.
