Advanced Level ELL with Sam Brann

My Reflection

By Sam Brann

This is the second time I’ve had my class participate in the ELL/Art project with the LWTech library, and it has been just as gratifying as last year. The students who provided their written works for this collection come from a wide range of backgrounds and provide unique perspectives. All of them are non-native English speakers. In addition, their voice as writers demonstrated their writing talents in the English language. For this assignment, nearly all of them wrote about a person whom they admire. This is one of my favorite topics because it’s a good opportunity to get to know my students better. Some of them wrote about people they knew personally as friends or family members. Others wrote about famous people and explained why they respect them. All of them provide a detailed window into their lives, their opinions, and their values. I’m humbled by the courage it took these English Language Learners to share their amazing writing to the world. Finally, thank you to the art department and their students for participating and contributing such amazing art to represent these stories.
