Mae Jemison had a big dream—to go to space.
She loved science, math, dance, and sports. She worked hard in school, graduated early, and went to Stanford University and medical school. Mae also served in the Peace Corps, helping people in other countries.

In 1992, her dream came true. Mae became the first African American woman in space when she flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

This book tells the story of Mae’s life, her challenges, and her success. It is written for ESL students to practice reading, learn new vocabulary, and be inspired by Mae’s journey.
