Using This Book
Marilyn Nielson
This textbook is designed to supplement your time in class. Here’s what I suggest to get the most out of the book:
1. The night before, or the morning of class – skim through the section we’ll cover that day. See what’s familiar. If you can, work a problem or two from the examples. Check your work to see if it’s correct (each example has a link to a worked solution).
2. After class, when you’re working on your problem set, refer to the textbook for support. Many examples are similar to the problems you’re working.
3. Come visit your instructor. Bring your book to show them where you’re getting stuck!
4. Take advantage of on-campus tutoring. If you bring your textbook along, it’ll help the tutor understand where you’re at.
5. As you get ready for exams, use example problems and practice exercises from the book to test yourself. If you are comfortable working these problems, and you’ve gotten through your problem set, you are ready for the exam!
