Book Information
Book Description
Math for Future Teachers is an introductory Open Educational Resource designed to strengthen foundational mathematical understanding and pedagogical awareness for pre-service elementary teachers. The text builds deep number sense through explorations of number systems, decimals, fractions, and operations across multiple representations—including number lines, models, and alternative bases. Students develop conceptual understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, investigate properties of operations, and learn to interpret and create word problems that support children’s reasoning. The book concludes with proportional reasoning, including ratios, percentages, and proportions. Throughout, the emphasis is on clarity, conceptual models, and classroom-relevant strategies aligned with Common Core approaches.
