This work was adapted from the sources below by Pattie S. Green, Ph.D. (now retired) and Jonathan E. Pottle, Ph.D., of the Department of Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences at Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, WA.
Dr. Green did the original compilation and adaptation of portions of the sources below to form this textbook. She also made the following original and substantial contributions:

- Section “Themes of the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines,” in Chapter 2: Guidelines for Healthy Eating (largely rewritten from a section addressing an earlier version of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans)
- Part of section “Recommendations for Optimal Health from the USDA,” in Chapter 4: Nutrition Labels and Healthy Eating (updating for 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the retirement of MyPlate)
