Common Modules
Pierce College ELAD
Getting your online course ready can take a lot of time, especially when you’re starting with a blank course. Instead of starting from nothing, why not try the ELAD Common Modules, a template Canvas course made by our instructional designers? The Common Modules include an orientation module that emphasizes support resources available at Pierce College. They also include template modules to help you organize your course materials. You can customize the Common Modules to meet your needs. An instructional designer is happy to help, but first, you should review the Common Modules.
Follow these steps to get the Common Modules.

- First, contact ELAD to get a Development Shell.
- Second, follow the steps for previewing a resource in Commons. (Hint: Copy the title of your Development Shell, so you can find it easily if you decide to import the module into your new Development Shell.)
- Third, search for 2024-25 Common Modules. (Hint: If you’re logged into Canvas, this link should lead to the Common Modules in Canvas Commons.)
- Next, use the preview feature to see what information is contained in the Common Modules.
- Finally, you can follow the steps for importing from the Commons.
The Common Modules are freely available to use and adapt for your courses! We hope that this course template helps you to design your course efficiently and effectively.
