The Case Study House #8 began as the Eames’ answer to the housing program focused on post-war housing crisis of 1945. The couple eventually ended up building on a hillside amongst tall eucalyptus trees in California. They had 2 structures separated by a courtyard: 1 for living, and another as a studio. It had a concrete retaining wall by the hillside. And the buildings themselves would be made mostly from glass, steel, wood, and other prefabricated materials. The exterior walls used different colors, materials, and textures. Lots of glass made the house seem more spacious. They used bold primary colors sparingly for some areas to pop and break the neutral tones, resembling a Piet Mondrian painting.
