2 Cascadia’s Subscription to Pressbooks
Dr. Anne Tuominen
Chapter Purpose
This chapter introduces a few details of our institution’s Pressbooks subscription to provide some early context. More specific information is available in Part 3 of this book.
Casadia College’s Pressbooks Account
As of Summer 2021, Cascadia College has a Pressbooks (PB) subscription as part of the SBCTC Open Washington’s PressbookEDU account. (SBCTC is the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.)
Open Washington serves as the PressbooksEDU portal for Washington State’s subscribing institutions, and faculty and staff at these institutions each follow their own institutions’ guidelines for creating Pressbooks accounts and publishing content in Pressbooks. Each institution also has its own catalog of Pressbooks content, while all of that content is also catalogued within OpenWA’s Pressbooks catalog.
A few key features of our Pressbooks subscription:
- Easy to use: The interface for adopting, adapting, or creating open content for published books or other teaching and learning materials is relatively simple.
- Sustainable: Content may be created collaboratively, and may be updated and republished at any time.
- Easy to access: Content is catalogued with the College’s own Pressbooks catalog, students and other readers can access publications easily via a URL, and may download content as PDF, ePub, etc.
The Terms of Use and further Pressbooks details for Cascadia users are found in Part 3 of this book.
Example of Pressbooks feature
In Pressbooks, you may add media content to your chapters. Did you notice this chapter opens with an image that was inserted to enhance the reader’s experience and to support the text that follows? See Part 3 for more information about how to use such a feature.
