Dr. Anne Tuominen
Chapter Purpose
This chapter outlines again the nature of Cascadia’s Pressbooks account, and explains how to log in, what resources to bookmark and the College’s Terms of Use. In this chapter you will signal your agreement to the Terms of Use.
Overview of Cascadia’s Pressbooks and what to do to get started
Pressbooks is a publishing platform especially suited for the publication of open educational resources (OER). Cascadia College has an institutional subscription to Pressbooks via OPEN Washington’s PressbooksEDU account. This document clarifies the connection between OPEN Washington’s account and Cascadia’s subscription, explains how to log in to Cascadia’s catalog of Pressbooks, and lays out the terms of use of Cascadia’s Pressbooks.
Tasks
To use Pressbooks, complete each item.
- Understand that Cascadia’s subscription to Pressbooks is via OPEN Washington, which is the Open educational resources network managed by Washington’s SBCTC OER team (as described in Part 1). OPEN Washington serves as the PressbooksEDU portal for any of SBCTC system’s subscribed institutions, and faculty and staff at these institutions each follow their own institutions’ guidelines for creating Pressbooks accounts and publishing content in Pressbooks. Each institution also has its own catalog of Pressbooks content, while all content is also cataloged within OPEN Washington’s Pressbooks catalog.
- Sign in to Cascadia’s Pressbooks using the Institutional Login on the OPEN Washington Pressbooks portal (you may need to scroll down to see the Institutional Login after clicking Sign In). Log in with your Cascadia College single-sign on credentials.

- Come back here and mark your agreement to the Terms of Use prompt at the bottom of this chapter.
- If yes, start adopting, adapting, and/or creating OER content on Pressbooks.
- If you have questions or concerns you would like to discuss before agreeing to the terms, contact Learning Technologies and Design.
