English has three sounds for the letter “s.” You have to pay attention to the final sound before the s.

  • Voiceless sounds: /s/
  • Voiced sounds: /z/
  • The sounds in s, z, sh, ch, j, g: /ɪz/

 

A. Type one:  Voiceless +  /s/

Verbs and nouns ending in voiceless consonants + /s/

Practice: Circle or find the final sound before the s

Example :  takes   The last sound before s is /k/
