Indigenous groups all over the world are fighting for their right and autonomy to the land their people have lived on for generations.
#LandBack is one of the most prominent movements urging governments to provide accessible, fertile land under the sovereignty of the indigenous peoples. #LandBack could be considered a form of reparations, but #LandBack also implies that the land historically lived on by indigenous peoples had been taken from them by settling colonizers.
While many indigenous peoples have adapted to modern society, the cultural erasure and disconnection from their land has traumatized generations of indigenous people. Without the necessary resources or credible assistance provided by the federal government, indigenous peoples have been abandoned by the governments that historically promised them an equal share of land.
