Answer Key
- Recipe. There are many similarities to a recipe which includes ingredients (base materials) and stove, grill, or oven settings (machine settings and temperatures).
- False. Not all welding jobs require a WPS. Welding on fabrications that will not kill or injure such as lawn art, does not need a WPS.
- Soldering and Brazing jobs. Soldering and Brazing do not use WPSs. They use Soldering Procedure Specifications and Brazing Procedure Specifications respectively.
- Initial educated guess. A pWPS is an educated guess at what the welding essential variable should be such as voltage or amps, travel speed, etc.
- True. PQRs and SWPSs are documented successful code welds. Those essential variables in the PQR or SWPS are used to write a WPS.
- Drivers License. Obtaining a driver’s license does not require a WPS.
- Signatures. Signatures are included.
- Shielding gas. Shielding gas is part of another section in the WPS
- Welder. The welder’s signature is not on a WPS because welders do not develop WPSs. Engineers and senior welding inspectors write WPSs depending upon company policy.
- Weld process. The weld process is not included in the information depicted in Figure 18.8.
