  3. Which is NOT a place where a WPS would be encountered?
    1. Job Interview
    2. Certification Test
    3. Welding Classes
    4. Soldering and Brazing jobs
  4. The preliminary welding procedure specification, or pWPS, is an                    at what the welding essential variables are.
  5. True or False: A WPS is written using a PQR or SWPS.
  6. When a fabrication can kill or injure, what is NOT something that will require a WPS.
    1. Law
    2. Drivers License
    3. Contract
    4. Insurance
  7. Which is NOT part of the upper portion of the WPS?
    1. Revision Number
    2. Date
    3. Signatures
    4. Supporting PQR
  8. Which field is not part of the Materials section of the WPS
    1. P-no (number)
    2. Group-no (number)
    3. Backing
    4. Shielding gas
  9. Which signature is NOT included in the PWS signature block
    1. Engineer
    2. Welder
    3. Quality
    4. Customer Reviewer
  10. Which information is NOT included in Figure 18.8
    1. Bevel angles
    2. Root opening
    3. Plate misalignment
    4. Weld process

Answer Key

  1. Recipe. There are many similarities to a recipe which includes ingredients (base materials) and stove, grill, or oven settings (machine settings and temperatures).
  2. False. Not all welding jobs require a WPS. Welding on fabrications that will not kill or injure such as lawn art, does not need a WPS.
  3. Soldering and Brazing jobs. Soldering and Brazing do not use WPSs. They use Soldering Procedure Specifications and Brazing Procedure Specifications respectively.
  4. Initial educated guess. A pWPS is an educated guess at what the welding essential variable should be such as voltage or amps, travel speed, etc.
  5. True. PQRs and SWPSs are documented successful code welds. Those essential variables in the PQR or SWPS are used to write a WPS.
  6. Drivers License. Obtaining a driver’s license does not require a WPS.
  7. Signatures. Signatures are included.
  8. Shielding gas. Shielding gas is part of another section in the WPS
  9. Welder. The welder’s signature is not on a WPS because welders do not develop WPSs. Engineers and senior welding inspectors write WPSs depending upon company policy.
  10. Weld process. The weld process is not included in the information depicted in Figure 18.8.
