Chapter 2: Healthcare Settings
Overview
Landau (They/Them) is 24 years old and has worked in retail customer service for the last 6 years. They are in the early stages of researching healthcare careers. Landau is currently exploring the various settings where healthcare is provided. While they think of hospitals and clinics, they know there are many other settings that they have not yet encountered.
Healthcare can be delivered in a variety of settings. When most people think about where they go for healthcare, the most common places that come to mind are hospitals and doctors’ offices. In this chapter, we will explore the major settings for healthcare delivery, including acute care hospitals, urgent care centers, long-term care facilities, and outpatient service centers.
