Chapter 10: Additional Healthcare Careers

Healthcare professional smiling in a pharmacy

Overview

Michael is a 32-year-old college student who has always enjoyed chemistry coursework and medicine. He also enjoys working with people and in customer service. His ultimate goal is to become a pharmacist. However, he plans on enrolling in a pharmacy technician program first to ensure that this is the right path for him.

Pharmacy technology, as Michael discovered, is just one of many additional healthcare careers. Health education, substance abuse disorder counseling, pharmacy technology, and medical interpretation are all careers that provide patient and family support, both inside and outside of the traditional inpatient clinic setting.
