Below is an article that is a great resource for us math instructors. It is an article from the American Math Society by Natalie Hobson titled, “Six Ways Mathematics Instructors Can Support Diversity and Inclusion.”

In the article, Natalie talks about:

A) Using student’s Interests to Spark Interest in Math Topics

B) Providing students with a diverse group of mathematicians that they can relate to

C) Developing assessments that are flexible in how students’ respond with mathematical answers

D) Considering the diverse needs of our student body (logistically) such as access to computers and laptops

E) Allowing for mistakes so that students have a safe space to work and grow in the math class

F) Being aware of our implicit biases in our view and working with students inside and outside the classroom

Overall, I felt the article was an excellent resource to help remind me how to focus on diversity and inclusion within my math classes whether in class or online.
