PDPs for Supervisors: Part 1 Expectations

PDPs for Supervisors: Expectations

Professional Development Plans (PDPs) are important tools for accountability related to our employees’ retention, success, and feelings of belonging.

After this training, you will be able to:

  • Articulate the importance of collaborating with employees on writing PDPs
  • Define your own process for writing PDPs with employees that you supervise
  • Outline the process for submitting a PDP
  • Find institutional forms and guidelines for PDPs

General Information about PDPs

Timelines for classified and admin/exempt employees follow the calendar year, so parts of the PDP will be due on January 31 each academic year while the second part of the PDP will be due on December 31st of the same year. Supervisors are responsible for submitting a PDP for each of their direct report employees who are Classified and/or Admin Exempt.

Each supervisor will follow the PDP process and submit a PDP for every Classified and/or Admin Exempt employee they supervise. PDPs must be signed, but they can be signed electronically.

Please remember that we use Bridge, our employee learning management system, to track Professional Development Plans. Use the checkpoint for annual professional development plans to upload all of your employees’ completed PDPs at one time. Please don’t forget to share a copy of their finalized PDP with each employee. Once they have been submitted, Human Resources staff will review PDPs for completeness and then place the PDP in each employee’s personnel file.

Please contact Andrea Britten in Human Resources if you have questions about the PDP process or submitting PDPs.
