19 Fahrenheit and Celsius

When bakers use international recipes, sometimes the oven temperature, room temperature, water temperature, and so forth will be given in Celsius degrees instead of Fahrenheit degrees. It’s important to be able to convert from one to the other.

Thermometers showing fahrenheit and celcius degrees

(C= Celsius and F= Fahrenheit)

To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit-     (LaTeX: ^\circC x 1.8) + 32 = LaTeX: ^\circF

To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius-   (LaTeX: ^\circF – 32) \div1.8 = LaTeX: ^\circC

You will always round to the nearest hundredth, if necessary.

Example:

Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit:

(LaTeX: ^\circC x 1.8) + 32 = LaTeX: ^\circF

57.2 LaTeX: ^\circC = ________ LaTeX: ^\circF

Step 1: Multiply the Celsius temperature by 1.8.

57.2 LaTeX: \times 1.8 = 102.96

Step 2: Add 32 to the step 1 answer.

102.96 + 32 = 134.96

The answer is 134.96 LaTeX: ^\circF.

To convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius:

(LaTeX: ^\circF – 32) \div1.8 = LaTeX: ^\circC

107.6LaTeX: ^\circF = _______LaTeX: ^\circC

Step 1: Subtract the 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature:

107.6 – 32 = 75.6

Step 2: Divide the step 1 answer by 1.8

75.6 \div1.8 = 42

The answer is 42LaTeX: ^\circ C.
