The Impact of Identity and Personality on Social Status
Mehrnaz Kameli
I was born in Iran. my city is located north of Iran. A green and rainy city. In a large house with various flower and fruit trees. My brother and I were always busy playing in the yard. During the day, we went to school, and when we back home with our father. our mother prepared the meals for lunch. We spent lunchtime together and then worked on our school assignment. I remember that time for a weekend always went to my grandparent’s home and we spent time with our uncle, aunt, and our cousin. I spent my elementary school and I made good friends, and we have stayed in touch. After many years I entered university and started studying in another city, separated from my family.
During that time, I gained many positive experiences that prepared me for an independent life away from my family and opened the door to new adventures. For two years, I lived in the dorm with my friends and classmates, experiencing good, bad, and challenging times together. After a year of being in university, my life was changed because I met my husband there. After we got to know each other, we planned our life together, step by step, and we did. until the idea of immigration crossed our minds and brought a very big change to our lives.
My identity is made up of things that are a part of me, that make me who am I. I am a mix of unchangeable parts and some parts don’t easily change. these are things like race/ethnicity, gender sexual, language ability, etc. For example, my Persian ethnicity connects me to my rich culture. As a woman, my experiences and views are shaped by my gender. my language adds another layer to how I see the world. My nationality and citizenship status define where I belong. These unchangeable elements shape my personality and who am I. I can’t change them because I didn’t choose them. They are part of my personality.
Who we are, like our race, gender, and nationality situation, can affect how much power we have in Society. for example, some races or ethnicities may face unfairness, gender identity matters too, or My language (Farsi) Provides limited chances to engage with the People in the world. Societal power dynamics are influenced by historical, cultural , and systemic factors that can either advantage or disadvantage individuals based on these identities. it’s important to know these things because recognizing this helps us understand and show why some people may have more power than others in our community.
