Olympic Wrestling

Nathan Coleman

Hello, my name is Nathan Coleman, and I am here to present wrestling. Or more specifically, Olympic wrestling. I wanted to do this essay because it was important to me to share something about a part of my family that we celebrate but also the amazing history it has behind it. And I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I am going to be talking about the culture around wrestling and how it grew to what it is today. Wrestling was invented over 15,000 years ago and originated from China, which when reading the paper was an interesting fact. I never knew about wrestling. Compared to other sports, wrestling is not as popular as sports, say football, baseball, or basketball. But it has so much history that it is so hard to Overlook what an amazing sport it has grown into since China. People who participate in this culture of wrestling are examples. My sister Kacie Moorhouse, who was a state champion for Washington State. When she was in high school. There are many other people that I have grown around. That has been in the culture of wrestling. Or has learned so much from it that they cannot. Thanks to it enough there are many institutions. Contributing to wrestling. Such as most high schools. some colleges. And some professional leagues of wrestling are not a very social system because not a lot of people know about it or not a lot of people are interested in it. But there is a tight knit community, and it is a beautiful thing to see when wrestling tournaments are happening. This culture is especially important to me because my sister was a wrestler for a long time. She is incredibly good at it, and she is deeply passionate about it, and it is sad. For her to see such a good sport and it not be as popular as, say, football. And the reason I chose it was because of my sister and because I could just ask her if something were wrong, and we could both kind of bond over that. And what have learned from Reading about the history of wrestling is that it came from China. I never knew that, and it is so cool to learn about that. Wrestling was made over 15,000 years ago as a sport of strength. The Greeks, however, eventually made it an Olympic sport once the Olympics were made Surprisingly and since then it has not really changed much. Some styles are a lot different. Certain holds and certain grabs and certain takedowns are a lot different from when it first began. But overall, we are still using techniques from even the Greeks to the Chinese wrestling forums today. The social systems in wrestling. are high schools and colleges that have professional leagues of wrestling and opportunities for wrestlers too. Go up to the next level of wrestling if they so desired and. There are the Olympics as well. It changes from person to person, but most of it is the celebration or wrestling event. It is truly just. People getting together. Having these tests of strength, but in the end. They get to celebrate a new record or a new feat they have unlocked for themselves and grow to be better. And what I have to say is that it was very entertaining. It is a remarkably interesting sport. And I thought there was a lot of value to it, and it could be. I shared it with a lot of people who do not know about it because it is also one of the most historically like oldest sports of all time. wrestling events have been celebrated in diverse ways in the years it has been alive. When it was first introduced in China it was just a test of strength of the day. But as time went on and went to the Greeks, they made it an Olympic sport! Which was extremely popular and still is to this day. When wrestling hit America it started to change. Still have traditional wrestling but it was also entertainment wrestling’s for example WWE Or WWF Or so many more. Wrestling has provided so many things in America and all over the world. And it evolves still till this very day, and it is amazing to see the progress that is come from Being made in China to now being an Olympic sport around the world. Wrestling is a world sport, and it will evolve with the world as everything has.

overall. I wanted to share how wrestling went from China to Greek to then all the way to America, and how it evolved over the years or centuries even. On how it changes from entertainment like the WWE to traditional physical brute force like the Olympic wrestling we know today.
