My Personality: How I Became Myself

Milana Zholchubekova

If you want to live, create yourself, create identity. “The only antidote to mental vulnerability is a whole identity.”- Edith Eva Eger (2017). Your identity helps you find your place in society and understand how you can contribute to the development of this wonderful world. In this essay, I’m going to talk about my identity, personality and about my life.

Childhood is the most wonderful and carefree time. We only understand this when we grow up. Childhood is the basis of our life. When we are little, we react to the world differently than adults. I had a very good childhood. My parents gave me a very good start to my life. I didn’t deny myself anything and didn’t need anything. Thanks to my parents, I have had a very broad outlook since childhood, as I have visited more than 17 countries since I was young. I went to various courses such as folk dancing, volleyball, ice skating, skiing, and language courses. I studied languages such as English and Chinese, and Russian was my second language. My parents raised me strictly, but such upbringing helped me become a responsible and balanced person. Parenting has put me on the path of responsibility and independence, which clearly helps me in my current life. Family plays a big role in everyone’s life. My family consists of my parents, two older brothers and a little brother. And yes, I’m the only girl in the family. Of course, growing up among boys is a little difficult, but over time, you realize that it’s even better in its own way. We try to spend more time with our family because we have a big family, and everyone is busy with their own business. Our family is based on trust, caring for each other and mutual understanding. Of course, there are times when there are quarrels, but I think it’s normal. School! I have the warmest and most joyful memories associated with this word. When I came to study, I immediately encountered attentive, caring teachers and a very friendly class. Even though I liked school these days, I was a different person at school. I was very calm and quiet, very shy to communicate. Over time, this habit has disappeared, and now I can say that it is now more or less easy for me to communicate with people. I am currently studying abroad. Everything is new to me now, but I like it. I’m starting a new chapter in my life. I want to try myself in different fields of activities. We cannot change certain aspects of our existence, such as the unseen threads that connect our past and present. These stable aspects of my life build a unique pattern that defines my personality. They have become a part of me that cannot be changed, and yet they give my life a special meaning. For example, race and ethnicity, race cannot be changed because it is usually related to biological characteristics. People can influence Ethnicity, but not how to change it. For the 21st century, it is quite possible to change gender, but as for orientation, I think that it cannot be changed, because it reflects emotional attachment to people in different ways.

About nationality. I believe that I would not be able to change my nationality. My nationality is Kyrgyz, which I am very glad and proud of. I’ve told you about our country than once, and I think you’ve heard about it more than once. The nationality of people reflects their belonging to an ethnic or cultural group. People of various nations create a variety of cultures and customs, improving the global society using their unique contributions to art, science, education, and other fields. Love and respect for ethnic different ethnicities. Even in communication, it is very interesting to listen to them about culture, traditions, and so on. Everyone has their own diverse history and own identity. I think that my identity is less related to the dominant group. I can take as an example that I am a Muslim. The religion of Islam is in second place, that is, 15-25% of the total population of mankind worldwide. There are 6-7 million Muslims in the United States, that is, 1-2% of the country’s population. The USA is a multi-religious country with a variety of beliefs and cultural traditions. The main religious groups are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism and others.

Of course! I want to emphasize that although some aspects of our personality, such as nationality and religious beliefs, cannot be changed, they are still unique to us and give importance to our lives. Although I am proud of my nationality and beliefs, they do not fully describe me. In fact, a lot of different elements have shaped my personality. Since each of us is individual and has the right to choose how we want to show ourselves to the world, it is necessary to respect and recognize this uniqueness in other people as well.
