Social Status: Achieved Versus Ascribed

Definition
A way of life or a title attained by ones attitude or customs. This is either earned of bestowed depending on one’s condition of living. Often rewarded by someone of a higher influence such as adults, parents, teachers, or elders. Although everybody has a status there is some who gain status by birthright. A family who is wealthy will often give portions of their success to their children thus giving them higher status. Families who are impoverished work the same way in that they have a low status due to low success within their kinship.
