Ageism

Definition 1
Ageism is oppression or discrimination against someone because of their age.

An example of this would be like when my grandma says that she’s talked down to when she is shopping or at the doctor’s office as if she doesn’t understand them or like she’s stupid.

Definition 2
Ageism: A process of systematic discrimination and stereotyping against people because they are old.

Example: A couple years ago my father, who at the time was 71 and recently retired, decided to get a part time job at a big box hardware store. Naturally everyone he worked with was significantly younger than him. It didn’t take long before I was hearing stories from him about how the manager wasn’t treating him very well and that he never felt like he was treated with the same importance as the other employees.
