Definition
Alienation: the act of purposely distancing or isolating individuals from a group and making them feel like they no longer belong there.

Example
Someone getting picked on by their peers for not having the newest smartphone. The group judges that person and  makes that person feel unwanted/ uncomfortable forcing them to retreat from the group even if they don’t want to.
