Race versus Ethnicity
Race is defined as the physical attributes of one’s appearance (color of your skin, facial features, etc.) and ethnicity is defined as one’s cultural background or heritage from family descent.
My ethnicity is Hispanic/Mexican, but I find it challenging at times to answer the question, “What is your race?” because it can be confusing at times. I could say my race is white, solely because my skin color is white, but I could also see myself as a person of color or brown. Having to identify my ethnicity is not difficult because it is my cultural heritage, but defining my race is puzzling.
