Education as a Social Institution

Education as a social institution, to me, is any physical location chosen with the direct purpose of learning. This means that all of the mores, values, and norms revolve around this main purpose.

Education has been very important in my own life, and likely has been in the lives of many others, as well. Of course, it’s served its main intent of teaching me things in subjects like math and science, but it’s teaching has extended far beyond that. It taught me the basic expectations of my society, how and when to speak up, what some of my roles are, and how to interact with my peers and authority.
